Get ready for a blast from the past with a modern twist! The iconic Jensen Interceptor is making a comeback, and it's set to be a game-changer. The original Interceptor left its mark on the automotive world, and now, 50 years later, it's back with a bang.
Banbury's Jensen International Automotive (JIA), known for their expertise in restoring and modernizing Interceptors, is behind this exciting revival. They're bringing us their first-ever clean-sheet design, a true British-built GT with a powerful V8 engine. But here's where it gets controversial... this new muscle car is going to be a limited edition, hand-built masterpiece, which means it's likely to come with a hefty price tag.
JIA promises an "ultra-high-performance" experience, offering a luxury ride with a fully analogue driving feel. Imagine a manual gearbox and a cabin filled with physical controls, reminiscent of the classic 1960s Interceptor. It's a nod to the past, but with a modern twist.
While we're yet to uncover all the details, Autocar has hinted that the new Interceptor might borrow its engine from the latest Chevrolet Corvette. That's right, a 6.2-litre V8 powerhouse under the hood! But JIA insists that their powertrain will be a bespoke creation, so we can expect some unique surprises.
Comparing it to the original, the new Interceptor will likely have a similar big-block V8, but with a significant power boost. The classic 6.3-litre Chrysler V8 produced over 250bhp, but the new car is rumored to have even more punch.
The unnamed JIAGT will ride on a lightweight aluminum chassis, a clever move to maximize its power-to-weight ratio. And while we haven't seen its full design yet, the official sneak peek confirms a classic Interceptor silhouette with a long bonnet, sleek roofline, and a low-slung profile.
JIA's Managing Director, David Duerden, describes their vision as "taking the luxury British GT theme to new, thoroughly modern heights." He believes this car will stand out as a completely unique, all-new creation.
As for its release, we're still waiting for an official date, but with JIA emphasizing the car's British heritage, a debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July seems like a perfect fit.
