Levente Mozsarik, a freshman at SCAD, made history at the Sun Conference Swimming & Diving Championships in Ocala, Florida. On Thursday evening, he shattered the NAIA National Record in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking an impressive 19.42 seconds. This time broke the previous record of 19.47 set by Keiser's Noel De Geus at last year's national championship meet.
Mozsarik, a native of Hungary, is just 19 years old and new to American collegiate swimming. His performance in the 50-yard freestyle has already ranked him 10th among all Hungarians and 2nd among those born in 2006 or later. His long course bests in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle are 23.02 and 50.88, respectively.
The Sun Conference Championships saw a strong showing from international swimmers, with only one A-finalist in the men's 50-free on Thursday being an American (Caedmon Peterson from SCAD, 5th place in 20.91 seconds). Additionally, only two B-finalists were Americans (Jake Litchfield and Jackson Voelkel, both from SCAD).
Mozsarik's achievements in Hungary include representing his country at the 2024 European Junior Championships, where he finished 27th in the 50-meter freestyle and 33rd in the 100-meter freestyle.
On the women's side, SCAD freshmen Lena Gerl and Jette Haedicke set new meet records. Gerl's 4:57.29 in the 500-yard freestyle broke the old meet record by two and a half seconds, while Haedicke's 2:04.24 in the 200 IM was a new record. The SCAD women also broke the 200 medley relay meet record with a time of 1:41.79.
Keiser's women's team set a new record in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:27.15, knocking more than seven seconds off the old meet record set by a different Keiser relay in 2023. Senior Rachel Bradley was the only holdover between the two.
On the men's side, Keiser's Isaiah Aleksenko won the 200 IM in 1:47.62, breaking the old meet record set by SCAD's Kevin Kell last year by over a second.
SCAD's men's team claimed the 800-yard freestyle relay record with a time of 6:36.28, while Keiser's relay was disqualified due to an early exchange by Isaiah Aleksenko.
Keiser won the 200 medley relay in 1:26.47, improving upon their own meet record from last year by 1.4 seconds.
