Kerala's Public Service Commission (PSC) is facing scrutiny as a special investigation team (SIT) seeks documents related to key recruitment exams. This move comes amidst allegations of malpractices in the PSC's hiring process, with the team requesting detailed information such as mark lists, answer sheets, question papers, and interview mark lists. The SIT's head, IG S Ajeetha Begum, met with PSC chairman M R Baiju to discuss the probe and the documents required. This development follows the receipt of approximately 20 complaints regarding various PSC recruitment exams, prompting the government to initially consider a vigilance probe before opting for a more comprehensive crime branch investigation. The legal opinion from the Director General of Prosecution played a crucial role in this decision, emphasizing the crime branch's ability to investigate a wider range of crimes compared to the vigilance department's focus on corruption-related offenses under the Prevention of Corruption Act. This shift in approach highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a thorough examination of the PSC's exam processes.
